Residents and Guests Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday at Villas at Stoney Point

Residents dressed as historical and patriotic figures pose for a group photo during the America 250 celebration at Villas at Stoney Point.

Residents, families, and guests gathered at Villas at Stoney Point in Cedar Rapids to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with historical reenactors, live music, food, and community activities. The event showcased the active lifestyle and social opportunities available to residents throughout the year.

Historical Figures Bring America’s Story to Life

Resident actors portrayed iconic figures from American history, including George and Martha Washington, Betsy Ross, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Abigail Adams, Pocahontas, Susan B. Anthony, the Statue of Liberty, Eleanor Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Jacqueline Kennedy.

Guests received a form featuring each character’s nickname, such as Honest Abe, Lady Liberty, and the Mother of the American Flag. As they identified each historical figure, they received the actor’s signature. After collecting all 12 signatures, guests could choose from a variety of patriotic prizes, including leis, bracelets, sunglasses, necklaces, and pinwheels.

Residents Take Center Stage

Continuing a beloved tradition, residents participated in a performance: a Star-Spangled Karaoke Show.

Highlights included:

  • “This Land Is Your Land,” performed by the George and Martha Washington impersonators
  • “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” performed by the Abraham Lincoln actor
  • “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” performed by the Andrews Sisters, accompanied by a bugle solo from George Washington
  • “America the Beautiful”
  • A Marilyn Monroe impersonator singing “Happy Birthday” to JFK

The entertainment continued with residents performing as famous musicians, including Willie Nelson singing “On the Road Again,” Patsy Cline singing “Blue Moon of Kentucky,” Elvis performing “Viva Las Vegas,” and Frank Sinatra singing “New York, New York.”

The celebration concluded with a crowd-pleasing rendition of “God Bless America” and confetti poppers to mark the occasion.

“It was incredibly interactive and very well received,” says Beth, the community’s activities director.

Food, Entertainment, and Patriotic Fun

No celebration would be complete without great food. Peppercorn Food Truck served smash burgers, tacos, and pulled pork sandwiches.

For dessert, guests could choose from apple, cherry, and peach cobbler, as well as lemon bars.

The event provided residents and guests with opportunities to connect, laugh, and celebrate together, reflecting the welcoming atmosphere that defines life at Villas at Stoney Point.

Enjoying the Amenities at Villas at Stoney Point

In addition to the festivities, guests had the opportunity to experience many of the amenities available to residents at Villas at Stoney Point.

“It was a beautiful day, lending itself well to fishing at our pond, pickleball, and golf on our putting green,” Beth says.
